&lt;p&gt;Im Clinton Stadtrath versuchten die Temperenzler den Verkauf von Bier und Wein einzustellen, wurden aber, wie die „Volkszeitung” mittheilt, ganz gehörig geboten. Die freisinnigen Leute werden sich aber auch wohl der Mucker erinnern, die für das Verbot stimmten.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;Der Salonbesitzer, Herr J. Taake, in Clayton City, wurde, wie der „Nord Iowa Herold” berichtet, das Opfer eines frechen Raubanfalles. Der „Herold” erzählt:&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;„Die Einzelheiten sind, nach den uns gemachten Mittheilungen, etwa folgende: Nachdem sich bereits alle anderen Gäste aus dem Saloon entfernt, blieben noch zwei Fremde zurück, die im Laufe des Gesprächs aus dem arglosen Taake herauslockten, daß er seinen Revolver im oberen Stockwerk habe. Kaum hatten die Strolche dies ausgekundschaftet, so befand sich auch Taake den Mündungen ihrer Revolver gegenüber und wurde nun zur Herausgabe seiner ganzen, in etwa $15 bestehenden Tageseinnahme gezwungen. Nach Vollführung der That theilten die Strolche dem Beraubten mit, sie seien aus Missouri und wären des Geldes dringend bedürftig. Wenn sie wieder in bessere Verhältnisse kämen, würden sie es ihm zurückerstatten.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;Einbrüche und Raubanfälle kommen seit letzterer Zeit auffallend häufig vor. Unsere sämmtlichen Wechselblätter sind voll von solchen Berichten, und scheint auch unser Staat nicht verschont zu sein. In McGregor, Waterloo und überhaupt in all’ den größeren Städten Iowa’s sind kürzlich Einbrüche verübt worden.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;Das Bezirks-Turnfest des nordwestlichen Turnvereins findet am 6., 7. und 8. Juni zu Lansing statt. Aus eigener Erfahrung wissen wir, daß es kein gastfreundschaftlicheres Volk im ganzen Staate gibt, als gerade in Lansing, und können wir daher unseren nördlichen Freunden herzlich gratulieren.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;Ein Saloonwirth in Dubuque, erzählt der „National Demokrat,” hat in großen goldenen Buchstaben das Wort „Office” auf seine Fenstervorhänge malen lassen. Ob das die Betweiber abschrecken wird, ist zu bezweifeln – ist aber doch originell.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;In der Nacht vom 1. Mai wurde zu Newton, Jasper County, in fünf Stores eingebrochen und Waaren im Werth von mehreren hundert Dollars entwendet. Die betroffenen Kaufleute sind die Hrn. Wright und Son, Vaughan und Son, Gardner und Co., J. H. Chapman, und Dubus und Bodly. In J. Meyer’s Groc[e]rygeschäft wurde auch eingebrochen, wurde aber nichts gestohlen. Bis jetzt ist noch keine Spur von den Dieben aufgefunden worden.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;Charles City hat die Saloon-Licensen von $300 auf $500 erhöht. Osage auf $600. Das ist starker Taback, aber doch nicht so schlimm als gänzliches Verbot.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;Das Skelett eines Menschen wurde kürzlich in einem Steinbruch in Marion Township, Marshall County, gefunden. Dem Aussehen des Skeletts und der Umgebung desselben nach, muß es über hundert Jahre in der Höhlung des Steines gelegen haben.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;Wegen Verletzung der Revenue-Gesetze wurde Herr Adam Glab, der Brauer von der Plankroad, in dieser Woche vor die Schranken der Ver. St. District Court citirt, und diese Verletzung bestand darin, daß er sich weigerte, die Brauer-Licenz von $100 zweimal im Jahre zu bezahlen, wie dies der Collector verlangte. Am 20. Juni 1873 hatte er dieselbe für die Firma Glab und Sueß bezahlt, und als Herr Sueß einen Monat später aus dem Geschäft trat, und Glab dasselbe allein fortsetzte, muthete man ihm zu, nochmals zu bezahlen. Richter Love instruirte die Jury, daß die an Glab und Sueß ertheilte Licenz eine solche für beide sei, und Herr Glab wurde freigesprochen. Wer ersetzt ihm aber seine Unkosten? (Dub. Nat. Dem.)&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Gebührender Empfang: Am Freitag besuchten die Betweiber in Manchester abermals die Wirthschaften, hatten jedoch kaum ihre Ceremonien begonnen als sich ein Bombardement mit faulen Eiern über sie entlud und die Rutschweiber sich in einer Kleiderfärberei versetzt glaubten. Ein Straßenkrawall und Handgemenge entstanden, wobei es blutige Gesichter gegeben haben soll. -- Alles durch Schuld der Betweiber. Die friedlichen Bürger hatten die Ruhe bald wieder hergestellt.
