<p><strong>An die geehrten Leser des Anzeigers</strong></p>
<p>Mit dem Schlusse der heutigen Nummer enden die geschäftlichen Verbindungen des Unterzeichneten mit dem Iowa Staats-Anzeiger. Während vier und einem halben Jahre habe ich die Leiden und Qualen eines Redakteurs geduldig ertragen, während ich in jener Zeit mit der größten Mäßigkeit die sehr seltenen süßen Früchte meiner Arbeit kostete. Durch die Güte meiner Nachfolger wird es mir vergönnt sein, noch kurze Zeit mit den Lesern des Anzeigers editoriell in Verbindung zu stehen, und werde somit Gelegenheit haben, alle Beileidsschreiben zu erw[i]dern oder etwaige Hundert-Dollarscheine in Empfang zu nehmen. Wenn ich den Lesern des Anzeigers während meiner Thätigkeit nicht gerecht geworden bin, so ist dies eher Schwächen, denen jeder Mensch unterworfen ist, nicht aber einer absichtlichen Nachlässigkeit zuzuschreiben. Wie schwierig der Beruf eines Redakteurs ist, können meine Collegen besser beurtheilen als die Leser, und wo von Seite des Volkes manches harte Urtheil gefällt wird, darf man bei ersteren auf brüderliches Mitgefühl rechnen. Meinen Feinden, wenn ich solche habe, will ich gern verzeihen, während ich Freundschaftsbezeugungen stets in Andenken halten werde.</p>
<p>Den vielen Gönnern des Anzeigers hiermit meinen Dank und hoffe ich nur, daß sie auch ihre Gunst auf meine Nachfolger übertragen werden. Vom Beginne am war meine Absicht hier im Centalpunkte des Staates ein Werk aufzubauen im Interesse der Deutschen, und wie weit ich darin erfolgreich war, ist für die Leser zu beurtheilen. Ich scheide nur ungern von meinen Lesern; da ich aber überzeugt bin, daß das von mir begonnene Werk in bessere Hände übergeht und vielleicht schneller sein Ziel erreicht, bleibt in der Trennung immer noch eine gewisse Befriedigung.</p>
